After a long time of thinking and pondering, here is the new map of Avaron.

The map is drawn by Blake and many thanks to him!
The new map has the old landforms, but they have been modified to be more realistic and due the changes I've redesigned also the states, cities etc.

This version of the map doesn't yet include state names, boundaries, trade routes or any similar. I've planned to use this map in the main page of my new website for Avaron (if I ever manage to write them - at least I'm trying hard, but I'm not so experienced in html). On the site I've planned to divide the map into sectors and making them links; when one clicks a part of the map a more precise part of the map will open, which includes more cities, names of the rivers etc.

This version of the map includes only the largest and most important cities and places. I've replaced the simple dots with graphics, but I haven't included a legend, because I think it doesn't fit the map, but here is the legend:
    • the large castles represents large cities
    • the smaller castles represents smaller cities
    • the single tower (with trees around it) is used for bigger towns (smaller than the cites)
    • the farmhouse denotes smaller towns and other major settlements
    • the lighthouse represents an important seaport
    • the ruined tower represents cities and towns that have a historical meaning
    • the meaning of the fortresses is obvious...

The map includes the cool 'compass rose' Blake made for the map. The simple arrows and points of the compass have been replaced with graphics, which have meaning to the people of Avaron:
    • in myths the gigantic World Tree grows in the farthest north and thus the map has a tree for North
    • the sun sets in the west and that's the place where the last elves sailed according to stories
    • the crescent represents the mysterious moonkin - strange race that sail from the unapproachable east to trade
    • the tiger represents the other humanoid race, the tiger people how - according to the myths - are fierce warriors and fight in the armies of the Shah of Saralduran

This map, hopefully, is a new start for Avaron and I really hope that I can manage to make more content and share it.

It's very nice and visually pleasing. I like how it is colored and drawn, and the compass graphics is a nice touch. My only suggestion would be maybe simpler graphics for the settlements. It might be just me, but the level of detail of the graphics looks kind of out of place here. It's just a suggestion though. Otherwise, good job!

Yes, I know it looks out of place, but as I can't draw (and I really mean it - even a stick figure is difficult Wink ) I have to rely on different stock photos and drawings, and the graphic collection I have is free of copyright so I can use them freely. And the free pictures are what they are...

Well, I guess it can't be helped as of now, but maybe you should update it when you can find some new graphics.

That's the plan.

Unfortunately I can't provide a working link, because last time I had to reinstall windows I forgot to make a copy of the map and it was deleted... (I have the base that Blake drew, but the 'finished' map is lost)

Yikes, all of the city names and everything?

Maybe you have references to them in writing and can reconstruct them?

Aye! All the city names and everything else on the map. Names, however, were taken from the older version of the map and that I still have (a paper copy and in digitalized form also), so I can reconstruct the map. (If I ever find the inspiration to do that...)

Hmm...

Well, if you don't find the motivation, and find you've a bit of cash to spare, that's a simple job; I could give it to an intern, I think.

Also recently taught on of the artists on staff to draw maps. Of course that's much more labour intensive.

I get that it's a "Just-Dropped" "Expired or Deleted Domain Name".
