Got my first webspace (I've actually had it for a few weeks now). Check my profile if you want to see it. No conworlding material yet but at least I have a non-forum online reference now.

Funny thing about made up dichotomies is: Unless there's a switch that automatically flips the majority's way of thinking, we're still stuck with it and might as well adapt.
Funnier thing is: Short of finding out that baby Jesus was a tranny, nothing's going to flip that switch any time soon. _________________ Veghinix Wiki

I don't know.
First, bb4r's comment had more to do with people failing to understand basic vocabulary than acceptance of transsexuals. The gap between what words actually mean and what people think they mean does need to be minded, given our tendency to let our words bleed into each other until they lose all of the distinctions that made them linguistically useful.
Also, there is no concrete, permanent majority when it comes to issues like this. What is socially acceptable is in constant flux, and changes significantly each generation. I think the majority opinion on issues of sex, gender and orientation will have changed hugely in the next ten years or so, as those individuals who are in their teens and twenties right now shift into the majority. _________________

All distinctions that are not based in physical fact seem to be man made to some degree. This goes way beyond sex, gender, and "sexuality"/orientation. _________________ This is the world. |

What if there were a trichotomy between "true" and "false" and "something else"?
Or a tetrachotomy between "true" and "false" and "neither" and "both"?
Some people think that "not not X" means the same as "X".
Others do not think so, though they'll admit that "not not not X" means the same as "not X". _________________ The mark of a good citizen is that he doesn't believe anything if he can help it.

Just found out the Emily Janice Card who initiated it and did more work on it than anyone else, is the daughter of Orson Scott Card the SF writer.
She's also got second billing on the cast (after Esther Rawlings), so I assume she was one of the first two girls we saw. (The blonde is Lizzie Dashwood, the brunette is Fanny Dashwood.)
If you Google for images of Emily Janice Card you see mostly the covers of books-on-CD she's narrated; not all have people on the cover, and it's not clear that she's the model for the ones that do. There are also some covers of books by Orson Scott Card that have a young woman on the front.
But, look at the image beside the "Please read this warning about defective eBooks" at Orson Scott Card's official site. That's clearly the same woman who plays Lizzie in JAFC. Does she look like she could be the young woman on the covers of "Wyrms", Lisa Gardner's "The Neighbor", "Posing as People", "Nick and Norah's Infinite PlayList"? _________________ The mark of a good citizen is that he doesn't believe anything if he can help it.

Why are there suddenly so many more good Scandinavian, Baltic, and Nordic detective stories?
Is it because the quality of their authors has improved? Or just because the quality of the translators has improved? _________________ The mark of a good citizen is that he doesn't believe anything if he can help it.

YAY! Mint 6 failed to install, which probably means that the lappy's problems are hardware-based. Now I need a whole new lappy. And I can't access the stuff on my hard drive because god-fucking-damn Windows doesn't interface with Unix file systems and I don't have any other Linux machines. I'm taking a course to be a pharmacy tech. And it's looking too easy. This is why I conworld, because otherwise I'm not intellectually challenged in things I can get a job doing in a short time. They just don't have quick courses for becoming a quantum physicist... _________________

There could be a small improvement in both that would make the books seem noticeable better than they were before, without being able to point at one or the other as the main cause. _________________

Fairly common. My hair did the same thing, except that light hair runs on my father's side. I always assumed it was a normal occurrence.
